Time travel without the faux science - phew! Much more fun.
This book creates an overriding atmosphere which will ring around your brain long after you’ve read its last sentence. The big trick the author pulls off is making his narrative feel both frothy and deep, as he explores what would happen if we were able to go back and forth in time, at will. Much fun for those going back to the 60s and 70s, to the centre of London as the musical hub of the world - a subject which John Howard knows intimately. But also, going forward, able to see how certain characters’ lives play out. And eventually, into the future, where characters can see each other in older age, while knowing they can still choose to return to their youth. No clumsy attempt at the science required for this miracle, just a concentration on characters and their stories in a world where the impossible is possible. Seriously fun.”
