Jack Tipping takes you back to the turbulent times of the eighteenth century in this story of intrigue, passion, murder and retribution.
A young man is ambushed, assaulted and left for dead. He is saved by locals but his head injuries have left him paralyzed, disfigured, and without any memory of his past life. Although disabled he saves the life of the exquisitely beautiful daughter of a local baronet. He falls in love with the girl but because he cannot voice his feelings to her he thinks of a plan to secretly convey his love. His efforts badly misfire.
While visiting a port he and three others are captured by a press gang and taken aboard a slave ship. During a sea battle he is injured and with the help of a ship’s surgeon he regains his memory, power of speech and his looks. Upon his return he discovers that the woman he loves does not appear to be the same person he left behind.
What they say…
Faces of Duplicity really works the imagination from the moment you open the book… The novel constantly provides excellent character development and that coupled with an addictive plot line made it a pleasure to read.
The author clearly has a knowledge of the 18th century and that is reflected by the prose throughout, I would strongly suggest this book to anyone interested in this era, or to anyone simply after a compelling, intelligent novel. – Jake W
It’s a book that your grandmother or teenage child could read, there’s plenty for all ages… This is not the sort of book I would normally consider reading, preferring future history and Magic and Adventure Stories. A friend highly recommended it to me however and in the end I got a copy.
Well, The first thing that hit me was how visual the characters were described in the first few chapters, and this carried on throughout the book. The way the reader was brought into the relationships and the ease with which I could see the characters in my mind. The writer has a real way with words and the book very quickly became one that I couldn’t bear to put down, reading chapter after chapter at a sitting.
The adventures the main characters went through were so well written, I could have been watching this on the big screen. I was swept up with Russet’s nature and Jamie’s misfortunes as the story progressed. The scenes on the high seas were breathtaking as I was wrapped in the writer’s words almost as if I was there with our heroes.
The twists as the story progressed were magnificant though I thought I had guessed who the black highwayman was, and just who Jamie was in reality.
The mark of a good book in my view is where you cannot put it down until you’ve read right to the end and look forward to the next volume, the mark of a REALLY GOOD book, is to me, when you’d read it cover to cover and not only want MORE, but when you want the next volume NOW! This is one of those REALLY GOOD Books! Can’t wait for Volume 2. Come on Mr Tipping, get it printed! – D Shepherdson
This was a completely absorbing and entertaining read with a very strong story line… I have thoroughly enjoyed this book from the very first paragraph to the last and I can see how the ending could lead superbly into the next book. There are many twists and turns of fate with the tale been quite horrific in part but also with parts of wonderful humour. The story line is so colourful with very vivid descriptions that I think it could be made into a very enjoyable film.

Aces of Duplicity!… This a thought-provoking and captivating tome. Jack Tipping’s narrative is crafted in such a fashion that left me yearning for more. As I was taken on a rollercoaster journey through the 462 page publication, I felt utterly powerless to do anything other than read. Jack Tipping is sure to be remembered as a master wordsmith of our generation and, without a doubt, as the best fiction writer of the 21st century.

I must confess – I have never written a review of a book before – but then, I have never felt compelled to!… However now I do feel compelled to recommend this as it is a first for the author and he must not be allowed to slip into “obscurity”! This book will “hold you” from the very first sentence and you will not want to put it down – not even to sleep! The story has been described in a previous review so I will not repeat it – but I will repeat the advice to buy it, read it and, above all, enjoy it! You will be waiting for the sequels to become available from Amazon! The Faces of Duplicity is a must read.

Faces of Duplicity kept me enthralled from the very first chapter… I literally burned the midnight oil in order to find out what happens next. I had finished it within two days, leaving me eager to start on the next book in the series, which I understand is available soon. The story is fast-moving, amusing, romantic and outrageous in all the right places – everything required of a “good yarn”. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes to be entertained.
