Don't put off until tomorrow that which you can write today Even if all you have is just a great idea and a bunch of notes, your project has begun. If you have an idea for a story, what most authors lack is not the creative spirit to write but the discipline necessary to undertake the project and complete it in an allotted time. If you have an idea for a professional work, perhaps related to your sphere of expertise, you may simply need an outside perspective to help you get underway.

We may be the outside perspective to help move it all forward! Once the project has been agreed, we will work with you to get the job done, and as most of what we do is internet-based, there is an added immediacy and a global dimension that means wherever you are, with access to a computer and an internet connection, we shall be working with you to get your book out there.

Have you been working on a writing project but are not sure how to get it published? Perhaps you have spent months or years trying to get an agent or publisher to back your work. For every success story out there, the works of thousands upon thousands of potential authors never see the light of day.

We are not a printing press turned publisher. Fisher King Publishing is a full-service publishing house working with authors of all genre. We aim to add value from the outset while seeing things from a global perspective; how something is read in the UK may be different from how it is viewed in other parts of the world.

We take care of it. Project planning, ISBN registration, editorial advice, typesetting, cover design, printing, online book placement, submission to all major book lists, conversion for digital devices, audiobook production and much more. We know how daunting it can be to get a book published, and for new authors, we expect to provide a degree of mentoring to guide them through their project.

Are we part of the vanity publishing industry? We decline over 95% of books submitted and a fair proportion of the rest did not get past a discussion between us and the writer. We have two main criteria in book selection. First, we have to feel there is an opportunity for the title to find a market, and second, we have to like the author - life is short enough so we need to get on.

Do we charge for publishing a book? In most cases no, but there are some projects that we may support where we expect the author to make a contribution to the cost. It could be that the subject of your book is for a potentially small audience or you wish to publish to professionally support what you do in life. Your book could be a memoir or biography where the individual is unknown to a wider audience.

We take on very few new authors each year but we do accept submission of manuscripts. We read every submission made to us but have to give priority to the authors we already represent. While we make every effort to respond within 8 weeks; we may take longer in busy periods.

What should you submit to us? Author biography - Up to 500 words about you. Please include your contact details, including a mailing address, email address and daytime telephone number.

Fiction - Please send the first three chapters or around fifty pages and a synopsis. The synopsis should be a simplified explanation of the plot, in not more than 1,000 words providing the theme and characters of your book. It should not be a 'teaser' nor should it be written as an 'advert.' If sending part of your book, please indicate within the synopsis the number of words expected in the finished work.

Non-fiction - Either the first 10,000 words of your book or a proposal of up to 6,000 words including:

  • The subject of your book
  • Your credentials for writing the book
  • Titles of similar books that have been published that you consider compete with your book
  • A short outline of chapters
  • Number of words expected in the finished work
